calf castration problem

one of the calves who was castrated on Sat, is swollen...otherwise acting fine, eating and up and looks good, but I want to give him a dose of antibiotic just to cover the situation...I have some LA 200 and some Pen G....the Pennicillan is a little outdated...so which would be better to use? I am concerned about tetanus more than anything else...please advise...thanks

You should have given a tetnus shot then give a booster shot 2 to 3 weeks later. An antibotic shot is probably not necessary. Swelling happens. It won't last long.

I would go with penicillin, but not if it is out dated. I prefer penicillin for infected injuries. But we have found out the hard way not to use outdated penicillin, it just doesn't work. The LA200 may work, but if you can get some fresh penicillin. As for tetnus, I doubt you will prevent that.
