update on sale barn jerseys pics
I had posted some pics of these guys after I got them. I couldnt figure out why the heifer was so cheap, at $160 or something like that. I think that whoever had them just couldnt afford to feed them. They were skinny as heck. I havent had them long but the change is huge, at least with the heifer. The steer had a URI so he is a little slower to gain
Before:
Today:
The heifer is so sweet I think she is a keeper. I have had to smack her a few times as she thought it would be cute to head butt me. She is sooo in your pocket and never learned manners. We'll change that
And, I came home with this little heifer yesterday. She is 3 weeks old the auctioneer said. She is quite healthy so far as she was on her mother even in the ring. Why the person that bought mom didnt want baby I'll never know, soo I got her cheap. She is supposed to be a Corriente, but mom didnt quite look it. The cow had short legs, was quite a small cow overall. Looked more like a longhorn cross. Just seemed alot stockier then corrientes online look.
She will take a bottle but she is wild and its a chore to catch her. Hopefully she will settle once she knows where milk comes from. Might sell her after she is gentled and weaned but doesnt seem this breed has many buyers.

Laser, great job, much improved. In the first pictures the calf heads were actually outgrowing their bodies.....now their bodies are much more proportioned. Be happy.

Lastly, use goo-gone, wd-40, carburetor cleaner or similar products to remove the barn stickers. I think they look tacky; they are home now so the tags need to go....TJ

any guesses on age for the jersey now that she is in better shape?
I ripped the tags of the heifers, but the steer is a kicking jerk and wont let me near him for too long to do much so he will just be tacky for a while I guess
I used cydectin pour on. Shall I again?

I have no guess as to age. They sure are cute. That dark one has a nice W on his/her side and another on the back. I think I would go with a name starting with a W!

The Jersey colored animal in the third picture down from the top certainly has some sizable hooves. I think that animal may be older than thought.

Take a look at the ankle joints and compare them. The calf came off a soft floored pen. One with a deep manure pack. This allowed the hooves to grow long and her to roll back on the ankles. The later picture she is standing more up on the ankle not rolled back. We have noticed this in our heifers if the pen pack gets to deep and soft.

Wish you were closer! Might be interested in the corriente heifer. And Id take her right now too!
Corrientes are the mutts of the cattle world..some of them are short, some are tall..some are rangey, some are fat..some look long horn-y, some look beefy.. But you are correct most dont fetch alot...they are usually at the bottom of the sale barn regarding pricing..them and longhorns dont bring alot.
Good job with the other two!
