CAB is a joke. All the calf has to be is 51% black, doesn't matter what the breed is.

unioncreek,
As you probably already know, the American public is like the stock market. Both reactive to perception not facts! I just produce what they perceive they want. Actually I like Shorthorns and Murray Greys.

If a person had hay this cow would make money. " 1 black cow, 10 years old, 5 months pregnant, broken mouth, 1050 pounds, ...$.35" Take her home and keep her through the Winter come Spring she and her calf would prosper. She could be returned to the sale in decent condition and get a minimum of $.35 and possibly more if bred. The calf at weaning at a modest 500 lbs and at a conservation $1/lb would gross $500 from the nursing of the cow and from grazing grass.

As long as the head is black, it's angus.....
Haven't seen anything touch a buck around here
choice beef tops at .83
replacement steers 250-650 are around .97
even dairy heifer calves are $250 less than a few months ago.
Good time to lay in some calves though, see how the market pans out later.......

Agreed, lets not forget that now we have red angus so you can slide Terantaise, Devons, Reddish longhorn crosses, (polled of corse) and gawd knows what else in there and most people barely glance at conformation so bobs your uncle.

Around here feeder calves are going for up to 63 cents a pound-- sure wish I had a bit of land. Got a friend with 40 acres of grass keep telling him to stick some cows on it, but he just runs his 11 year old unbred Holstein/hereford mammoth cow pet on all that grass...

The choices were brownie bars sprinkled with chocolate chips and M&M's, Homemade Cinnamon Rolls, or Homemade Blueberry Pie.
Got to visiting with a rancher from Oklahoma and never did make it back for dessert. Real friendly folks, good people down Okie way.

So you took the brownie bars to go?

Best part of your post: Deal of the day!

I am leaning toward picking up three more young heifers this month. Black Dexters
