Good idea...

I told my neighbor last night that we were planning to get some steers next spring and would be selling some of the meat. She right away piped up and said that she would love to give me a certain amount of money each month towards a side so she wouldn't have to come up with the money all at once. I figure I'll just keep the money in an account in case something happens and the steers end up dying and we can't butcher.

Anyone see anything wrong with this scenario?

I do the same thing every year with a couple of locals. As long as you give them a reciept and keep a hold of the money in case of death or sickness as you mentioned, it works well. I do keep a $50 dollar deposit if they back out on the sale. It's difficult when someone backs out on you to find a last minute buyer while the calf is hanging on the rail.

I'm glad that it works for you, francis. I just happened to think...if we do this, we can use that money for the butchering and processing fees. This is sounding better all the time.

I've had a couple of people tell me they'd be interested in buying from us. At least one is a strict budgeting family, so I think they might like the idea of monthly payments also.
