Dexter Bull

I'm going to try and upload my first photo.
This is our 14 month old Dexter Bull, Shome Braeburn. He's really short (of course) but he's been doing his job for the last few months. I think he's filling out well considering that Dexters are supposed to be a dual purpose breed and he's never had any grain. He's dun and polled. What do you think of him as a young bull in general... how is his conformation? I'd love to hear your opinions.

I think he's realy good looking. I like his top line a lot, and he has a very good hip muscle. It's hard to tell from the way he's standing, but he looks to have good straight legs. I like the way he looks, how tall is he ?? For a long yearling he's looking very mature, he'll be really heavy by the time he's two. I want to see the calves he throws.

Thanks,
I don't know how tall he is right now. At 6 months old he was about 35 or 36 inches and now he's about 3 or 4 inches shorter than our steer that's the same age so he is short. He's not a "short leg" though. He was tested and is negative for that gene.

He has a nice top line and decent depth. Hard to tell yet but it looks like he may be a little light in the rear end. Which is unfortunate since back there is where the "high dollar" meat is located, but it's a very common flaw with Dexters.

I don't understand why people always say that the high dollar meat is in the rear... aren't the steaks along the back?

I think to most beef producers it usually means the hind quarter of a beef carcass, which contains most of the loin area. Not referring specifically the very last part of an animal that goes through the gate.

He's of better conformation quality than most dexter bulls I've seen. Plus his body condition is good too, no matter if he's got a butt on him or not.
