The cattle are nearly gone now

Our 2nd calf heifer, Tulip, has been gone for a couple of weeks now to a real nice young family down state. Now someone has called to say they will be here Saturday afternoon to pick up the young heifer, Mary.

Now we need to find a buyer for the nice hay we laid up this summer, the single cow milking machine, and the electric churn. It is sad to see things going, but perhaps it is time.

I'd like the details on your churn. Would you ship it to MO?

The milking machine has a 3/4 horse vaccum pump and a single 65# bucket, but it can be set up to run two buckets. It can also be set up for goats.

We're asking $1000 for it. We have in an inline filter (two actually), lots of filters, and an extra pulsator that goes with it. The silicon hoses need replacing now, but they're not expensive.

We bought it from the Parts Dept; they're on line.

The churn belongs to Herself, and I've no idea as to what she might want for it. It costs $225 new, and is a 2.5 gallon churn; meaning it will want to churn up to 1.25 gallons or a bit more cream at each churning. Even that is a lot of butter to wash.

It would be no real trouble to ship it anywhere, but further costs more for the shipping.

Haggis, I know how you feel. We sold off our breeding herd of Dexters earlier this summer and just kept the steers. We are going to buy a couple steers to finish from neighboring ranchers every fall. Just easier and cheaper than keeping a bull and cows. But, it was hard to see those cows go and I definitely have "empty pastures syndrome" right now, with only 3 steers where there used to be several cows, calves and the bull. I currently have a couple of nice milk goats (much cheaper and easier for me to keep and milk than a cow), so was no longer milking cows.

But, it was time and it's nice not to have to worry about keeping my bull in and keeping the neighbors' bulls out. This coming spring will be the first in many, many years that I will not have to be out half the night with calvy heifers. But, it was hard to see those little Dexters go.
