Used Milking Equipment value ?'s

Of course the value of something is what I can get for it

But specifically we have a few items we will not be needing.

Specifically, a Sunset Milk Cooler (model MC 310 serial # 16 MC 482)

And a really big Surge Alamo vacuum pump (16559) . Both used within the last 10 years but I would assume in need of being reconditioned.

Now we are just south of Dairy Country, but a 310 gallon bulk tank is tiny by today's standards...but then again overkill for me-who might have at most 5 milking cows! Same goes for the Alamo pump...probably more than I need to run a bucket milker LOL!

I put in a call to a local dealer in such items...but seeing as I know VERY LITTLE about either...I don't want to be told "that there's worth scrap!" when it might be worth slightly more than scrap!

Thank you for any and all insight. I'm glad to post photos if it would be helpful!

You should put it on Ebay. The bulk tanks usually don't bring all that much, but probably more then scrap. Seems like the big vacuum pumps bring pretty good money, again better than scrap. I would plug it in and see if it works, if so it would probably do pretty well.

Where are you in IL?

and do you have any of the pipeline stuff to go with the pump?

Does the bulk tank have a working compressor?

Hi,

Northwest of Chicago an hour east of Rockford.

Yes a PVC pipeline w. pulsators, electronics and galvanized for the waterers. The tubing for the milk has been removed. As for the compressor I don't know; as of late there has been a family of mice living in it although I would assume after being serviced it would work as the milk room is as it was the day the cow's were last milked.

The items have value.
The bulk milk tank has appeal to folks using it for :

Maple Syrup Producers. They seek stainless steel storage.
Wineries. Again, stainless steel storage vat.
Smaller dairies who either sell milk or manufacture cheeses or dairy products on-farm and sell them direct to consumers. This may include dairy goat or dairy sheep producers.

This may have changed, but the rule of thumb for pricing on older milk bulk tanks was $1/gallon of storage capacity.

The Surge Vacuum pump is sought after by Maple Syrup producers. It may also have value to an operating dairy farm that has a similar sized vacuum pump and wants a backup unit in case theirs fails.

I agree withy UpNorth. With the recent decision from the Oklahoma department of Ag recognizing goat dairys as grade A, the goat milking folks are gobbling up every small tank they can get their hands on as long as it's able to be cooled. These tanks are selling for $1 per gallon of capacity.
