Who said there was no money in Dairy Cows!`

Has anyone caught the story on the show calf named Apply? This critter sold for 1 million! I'm not sure she'll produce a million worth of milk? I don't know any details, just that the selling price was a million. What is so special about her?

I found mention of a cow called "apple" sold for 1 million. I looked at the article... did i miss where it mentioned what breed she is or why she is actually worth that much? ( beyond her rare red color they mention at the bottom of the article)

Check out the prices other animals at that sale went for.

http://www.ggatarethusa.com/salegallery.htm

Looks like $9000.00 was the cheapest.

They will sell the embryos of these gals and make their money that way. These are the best of the best in conformation + conformation. I really like those red and whit holsteins. They are so pretty.

I wonder how much 'breeder to breeder' buying and seller there is going on there? For example, Breeder A sells his animal for Breeder B for $X. Next year Breeder B sells an offspirng to Breader C for $X+. Next year breeder C sells an offspring to Breeder A for $X++. All can say, "Look how the market price is going up. Better buy from one of us now."

When I lived in OH I knew someone who went to a banquet which featured the top selling 4-H steer from the OH State Fair. Sold for something like $35 LB. Said it didn't taste any different than grocery store beef.
