Silent heats?

I bought my first pregnant cow this year (a 3-year old Dexter). She calved April 28 (a nice heifer). I run sheep and can tell when they cycle, but derned if I can' t tell when the cow does. Are cows that quiet?! I've seen no discharge or change in mood. The only time she bellows is when she's expecting her treats. The only suspicious thing I've seen was yesterday when she kept coming up on her calf from the rear and I saw saliva marks on the calf's back. I want to breed her in September and was looking forward to AI with a superior bull, and not have to scramble to find a local bull. Any thoughts folks?

It can be hard to discern heats if there are no other cattle on the place. If the calf is a bull,(no I guess it isn't..) then keep track of todays slobbering, and see if it happens again in 21 days. You just have to stay vigilent. Plenty of cows will act out their heats on other females so maybe you are onto something...good luck!
