I use a program called "Ranch Master" it keeps track of expenses for me and tallies it all up at the end of the year. It has a good pedigree tracking system, calving, selling, and doctoring, too. I really like it, plus they send me free updates on a regular basis, so you don't have to keep buying more programs for it. I think I found mine on line...........

Check out F.A.I.R. I think it is run by the National Registered Holstein Association, but you can store your info on it. I'm not sure of the cost, if there is a cost. Uses the RFID ear tags. Michigan cattle farmers are encouraged to use it. There are passwords and such so your info can't be picked up by another person. The data base can hold the breed, color, age, sex and TB test dates.

Ranch Manager is the one I use (maybe the same one as copperhead's). It keeps track of pedigree among many other features. Plus it is easy to understand.

I don't have a herd, just 2 heifers, but I put their pedigrees into my genealogy program and I can track everything in there with just a little bit of creative thinking. Lots of people already have genealogy software and there are even some good free ones.
