Dry cow bagging up?

Spring has not been milked in two or three months now. She should be dry... right?

She's not! and her vulva and surrounding tissues looks odd to me. When she walks, its real loose, like it wiggles when she walks... bounces kinda, like its loose. Not firm like normal.

Here are a few pictures..

also, her hip bones are showing more than they used to... ???

I should add too.. Her last calf was born in October of last year. She was with the bull for a month or so after, but then separated and has not been with a bull since then.

The dates are right for her dropping a calf anyday. I'd say you got a very pregnant cow there!

I've been doing some reading trying to decide if she's really pg or not...

I found two things that are indicators of impending calving...

relaxation of the ligaments and tissues around the vulva
and
'strutting teats' which I cant find a picture of, but the mild descriptions of it sounds like the teats point out.

I've never seen her teats point so far forward like you can see them doing in the picture, so I wonder if thats what THAT means?

Or regular camera died figures... but my cell phone takes some pretty great pictures, for a phone, so I'll update with pictures every few days and see what we end up with.

She's awfully sweet and calm right now. She even let me adjust her harness without too much of a fuss even... maybe its just too hot for her to care what Im doing? LOL its 101 out there right now!

Jennifer,

She is most likely filling up with colostrum (first milk.) Looks like a newly fresh cow in less then a month!

I can hardly believe it really... Im kinda in shock. We had the hardest time lining up getting her bred and then to find out there was a good reason!

Dh and I both 'bumped' her and both of us can feel something moving in her. I found instructions on the family cow forum for how to do it.

I may be wrong,... but time will definitely tell on this one.

Just adding a new picture or two. I have video of (blush) me... wiggling her butt so you can see how incredibly loose things are back there... I can post it if anyone thinks it'd help to decide if Im just delusional or if she really is pg and if she may be due soon... LOL

Looks like you will be having a calf in the next little while. I would say probably in the next couple weeks.

Poor girls udder looks painfully uneven. Does she milk out of her extra 2 teats or are they just dead extras?

Patty.

just extras... and normally, when I was milking it was the front two teats that got so painfully full... so its odd to see her waddling with that in the back.
