when to butcher?

I have an 16 month old dexter bull. He's getting kinda onry and I was wanting to know if I could take him to the meat locker in fall. He would be about 19 months old then. I know you guys have said to wait about 24 months, but I really don't want to feed him through winter and could really use the beef in the freezer. Would he be worth butchering now? Thanks for any advice.

Butcher him. It won't take but one mishap with an ornery bull to make you wish you had got just a little bit less meat from the butcher.

Sounds like he'll fit perfectly in the freezer right now. Sounds like it would be the most reasonable option, regardless of the standard age for butcher, what matters is what's best for your situation. The cost of feed is gettin' crazy. I just got hit with this years higher feed prices.
