Is this a good price for a Dexter?

I have the opportunity to buy a weaned Dexter heifer from a local farmer. She is asking $300 for her. Is this a good price? The older ones I have seen for sale around here are running $600-$800. This little calf is just now 2 months old.

Does anyone know about when the cow weans her calf? That is when this little heifer will be ready to leave.

Thanks

Wow! I would love to find one for $300 around here! Is she registered at that price?

Usually weaning is at 5-6 months. Is the calf registered? If so what does her pedigree look like? If you check www.CapitalPress.com there are several folks selling Dexter's right now. One in Cottage Grove and one in Siletz.

What do you plan to use this calf for?

A great price!

If she is registered and healthy that is a steal!

I am selling out my Dexters but wouldn't take less than $1000 for each bred cow. See www.sunrisefarmnc.com

Just curious as to why you are getting out Dexters? The folks I just got my two heifers from were getting out of them and switching to Boer goats.

I wouldn't trade off any of my heifers for that, it's a good price, if she's registered.
I think now is a great time to get into Dexters, what with the price of feed and all, they are a lot cheaper to raise than big cattle.
