help me price my cow

I've checked the auction reports and visited some farm websites, but I am having a hard time putting a price our animal's head. When you raise them from calf on up, sometimes you think they are worth lots and lots as you get attached I am selling her to buy a beef cow. I know prices vary from day to day and state to state...feel free to help me price her though as I am clueless.....maybe $1,200????? She is healthy and sound and is on pasture, and her developing udder looks good.

Red and white Jersey Holstien cross first-time springing heifer. Bred to an Angus bull on 1/1/08.

My opinion is she is probably worth more than $1,200.
The following shows current price ranges on crossbred dairy springers:
Norwood, MO Friday, June 13 2008
pringer heifers bred seven to nine months:
Supreme - 2050.00-2300.00,Pair Jerseys 1750.00
Indiv Crossbred 1950.00
Approved - 1850.00-1950.00, Indiv Jersey 1700.00
Indiv Crossbred 1750.00
Medium - 1025.00-1475.00, Crossbreds 1200.00-1550.00

The first prices listed are for Holsteins, the crossbreds are noted following them.

If you can find an individual looking for a family cow, you might ask $1500 for her. If you take her to the auction, roll the dice and see how it comes out.

Thanks to all. I'd love to keep her, but she will produce more milk than I need. Thanks, again!

Great minds think alike francis ... LOL. I was thinking an asking price of $1,450 - $1,500. One can always consider lesser offers.
I would try to sell private party before going to auction with a crossbred heifer. Auction will charge the seller a commission. Plus you burn your fuel to haul to point of sale.
4X6 notecards on Bulletin Board at local farmstores & feed mills, or a small ad in your local shopper paper can work out.

Good point, I never thought about losing the commission. I think I will try some of your suggestions. I also have sold livestock on my local Craigslist. You can type in speicifics and include a pic for FREE! Have to love that! I try to minimize the cost of advertising for my animals, but that it tricky sometimes when you want to get word out. Putting up an ad at the local feed store is a good idea as I love to read the posted ads when I visit the store, yet I never thought to put one up there myself?!?

Western NY-I just sold a bunch of cows threw personal means and last two went to a dairy auction.
Told- Jersey get less bred to beef cow get less. I got anywhere from $1200- $1600 for holstiens bred, more for heifers bred. Jersey went low $1,000 bred to jersey sold privatly and told by auction I would get less there.
I would at least to try to sell privatly- first. Ask $1500 take less if you have too.
Liz
