You stumbled onto a bad site. You're lucky you didn't pay those prices.
You can find a miniature of almost any breed that's popular if you look carefully. And at decent prices, too. There are miniature Jerseys and Herefords and Angus (Lowlines) and Shorthorns and the list goes on. My own favorite is the Irish Dexter, a naturally small breed that is good for just about everything. Milk or beef or draft or pet.
Then there are the cross breeds, like those on the site you mentioned. They can be very small, too. Dexters are used to cross with standard breeds to make calves that are invariably smaller than the parents. Some of these crosses are very nice, and they ordinarily sell for less than purebred cattle.
What part of the country are you in? Small cattle are popular almost everywhere, but some places seem to have more than others.
