Holding onto a patchy winter coat?

Is there a reason why cattle would still have a winter coat? These girls are from a mild climate. It's patchy around the belly area and sides. Looks like it just didn't grow out.

I heard worms....?
These are brand new animals to me, but seemed the farm they came from were great with diet, cleanliness, records etc. Doesn't seem to be neglect in any way.

Thanks again!

Mine still have remains of winter coat. The ones that let me I curry comb out. The rest will fall out.

I get a pour on dewormer that helps with flies also. The bottle says to apply once or twice a year, so it's not an expensive item. I didn't get it until I found two of my cows last year running with their tail up in the air and found out they had worms. This stopped that. I forgot the name of it, it's out in the barn. I bought it at tractor supply.

Well I can't yet brush them, but I'm working on getting them easier to handle, maybe there is hope then. I will contact the previous owners regarding deworming, can't believe I didn't ask when their last belt was. Thanks!

A rough winter coat is definitely a sign of worms. They also may be short on minerals. I would worm them and get them a really good loose mineral.

A rough coat or a winter coat that sheds slow or doesn't shed is usually a sign of copper and/or selenium deficiency and also worms. These work hand in hand because copper deficiency causes susceptability to worms and copper and selenium work best together. So thats what I would look at.
Do they have a good loose mineral? A good loose mineral and a good worming may do the trick.
There are also two products that can be used in severe cases when you want results fast. Coppasure copper boluses for cattle you can order from Jeffers and Bo-Se is selenium you can get from the vet.
