Lovey/Leaky cow

Is it normal for a milk cow to drip and leak a certain amount of milk when you're not milking them?

Believe it or not, I've noticed that Violet starts dripping and sometimes squirting milk whenever I talk to her! If she's standing in the field, chewing, the milk stays in there. If I come out and start talking to her - it starts coming out. Is she just letting down for me?

Its actually frustrating because by the time I get to actually milking her, she's spilled a bunch of it on the stall floor.

Also, are you cows affectionate? Violet's almost digusting with me. She licks me when I'm milking her, she will follow me anywhere and she pretty much demands that I scratch her head. I'm not complaining but is this typical? She's like a dog.

She sees you as her calf and she is letting down for you. Our cows does it too when she sees me.

I would say she does not have a tight spinster muslce- which could be way she got mastitis. Affection is good- but one cow I had drove me crazy licking me. Get her a cow friend- maybe that would help.

Heheh, my cow does the whole licking and loving thing with me too! If she hears my voice (like if the windows are open or I tell the dogs to quiet down) she starts hollering for me till I yell at her to stop or till I come out and love on her. If she sees me outside and she's on the other side of the pen, she comes running over to me at a full gallop, hollering the whole time. The neighbors seem to find this very entertaining. lol

I wish Violet came running. She makes me walk way out into the pasture to get her. Its irritating. I might start carrying treats....

She does holler like mad when she hears my voice, though. Funny, my son milks her in the morning and she doesn't holler at him or lick him.

Perfectly normal. I’ve seen this in lots of cows, sheep, goats and even a pony or two!
