Quality Pasture

For those that might be interested still, I have posted another article on Alan Nation's book "Quality Pasture". You can read it by clicking the link below my signature. Thanks.

Good article. I read somewhere in an Alberta Agriculture Pasture School book about the same thing that you mentioned, I'll have to dig it out again sometime and share it with you. It had some interesting stats on comparing weaned calves that were born in the fall versus those born in the spring, and, if I remember correctly, winter-born calves versus fall-born calves, summer-born calves versus spring/fall-born calves...something like that. I can't remember the stats off-hand, but I do remember something about summer-born calves being lighter-weight than either the fall-born or spring-born calves, and thus bringing less $$$...I can't remember exactly. But when I do find it, I'll post about it.

Again, good post furholler, well worth the read.

Thanks. I know that this tends to fly in the face of traditional practices, but it does seem to make common sense. Kind of like not being able to see the forest for the trees? Calving later in the spring just seems to make real sense to me.
