Mastitis?

I've got a Dexter cow that has a pretty bad udder. She's dry right now (was drying up when I got her) and one quarter never seemed to dry up all the way. It hit me the other day that maybe it's an infection or something. I've felt it and it's pretty soft to the touch. Any ideas? If it is mastitis what can I do about it?

I think we're going to have to have the vet look at her but I thought I'd ask for advice first.

Thanks.

most of the time mastitis will cause the quarter to be hard, and hot, and the milk that comes out will have little white chunks in it.

I have gotted rid of mastitis by milking the cow every 2 hours, all day for a week ,or untill the symtoms are gone.

The vet can verify her condition, and recomend a less labor intensive cure.
