Cattle manners

How do you teach your bottle babies respect? I had a ride across the yard last night due to one of the little monkies going between my legs ( it was just hilarious) I was reminded that what is cute at 200 pounds is just not funny when they get bigger I am feeding six of the little ones and they are about 4 weeks old. Whacking snouts doesnt work at all! they have absoultely NO fear! I want them to remain super tame but at the same time I do needs some personal space. I have never had to do the "snout whack" more than once with a foal....These girls are tough!

Start carrying a stick, about 4 ft long and give them the 'snout whack' with IT whenever they get w/in range of it. They will learn to respect the stick and not be afraid of YOU.

sometimes you just wish there was a camera in the yard so you can see those moments (lol)

I carry a stick and smack my girls on the nose, but after about a week of that, they seemed to understand that they needed to back off while I carry the food to the trough.

I know the dairy farmers round here carry a three ft length of pvc pipe. It makes a HWOOOSH sound if you swing it and a right sting if you connect. The cows seem to have great respect for it
