Milking through w/Jerseys...spin off from Goat forum!

A post in the goat forum got me to wondering... has anyone milked a Jersey longer than a year? What's the longest anyone has milked through?

I always "dried" up my Jersey 6 weeks before she had her calf and started keeping the milk about 7 to 10 days later...but don't remember milking her through an entire year but I have heard it done...MissKitty

I have heard of people breeding for a calf every 18 mo. instead of every year. They keep milking through until just prior to calving.

Our girl will have a longer than normal lactation this year. She calved in Dec. and we would rather have a spring calf so she will be bred next week.

We milked old Blossom for two years before even breeding her back, years ago. She was still giving over 3 gallons a day at dry-off. That was back when she was young.
