Names for cows

I have the privilege of naming the cows on the dairy where I work and am at the point of needing help. Annie Oakley (used to have her own wild west show) has a daughter that will enter the milking string in a few months. She needs a name. Also the Rose family is growing again. There are four generations at the farm now and the old Rose cow is getting close to 200,000 pounds of milk in her lifetime. The daughters of Rose are Rosebud, Rosepetal, and Rosita. Rosita just had a heifer calf. We lost Rosebud after calving with dead twins last month, but she left us two heifers - Rosalie and 602. 602 is a strong willed springing heifer that has already messed up a couple of gates. She needs a "rose" name that will encourage her to be good. I thought of Rose Thorn, but don't really want to go there. Anyone with ideas?

602 could be Rosalita (jump a little lighter! lol), Rosemary, or Rosina. Maybe Phoebe (Annie's real first name) for Annie Oakley's daughter.

Very cool names!!!!

Im thinking my cow "spring" will have calves named after things you see in spring... tornadoes, storms, tulips, dandelion, (dandy for a bull)... etc

Autumn might be harder... but we'll think of something.

Thanks for the names. Wild Rose and Calamity Jane are for the two heifers, but I will keep the other names for up coming cirtters. It is so much fun naming the cows. They now have so much more character than just numbers.

When my folks had a couple of dairy farms in the early 50s all of the cows were named as well. Funny how they knew which was their particular place in the milk line. If one went into the wrong stanchion the cow's who it was would stand in the aisle and glare at them until they moved over.

From dictionary:
Rosary
Rosebay
Rosebud
Rosebush
Rosehip
Rosemary

For a spookie: Wildflower, Wild Thing
rosemead
Rose of Jericho
Rose of Sharron
Rosetta

My beef cows largely name themselves. Sweet Thing was just an extremely friendly heifer from birth - just like people and to be scratched. One daughter is Sweetie. Another is Peaches - named by a young girl visiting. Wheezer because she wheezes. Dotty (I, II, III) because they were white with block spotches. Baby (my Black Jersey) because it is short for Just a Big Baby. Rest of herd is just identified by ear tag number. When a cow is named it means one of two things: it is a keeper or a goer. For example several years ago I had one who acquired the name of the Black B**ch. She hung around with about a half dozen other cows. So it came to be the Black B**ch and her court. They all went the next special livestock sale.

We have a Sweetie, too Her real name is SweetPea, but we often just call her Sweetie, and she is a love! Others are Rosey (red Brangus cross), Bessie (black angus), Patience (Hereford with the most docile temperment you can imagine) and Valentine (another red brangus cross). My breeding hogs are also named.

Rose update

The next time I went to the dairy after my original posting, there was a cow standing outside the holding pen. It was Rose. She had slipped on a piece of afterbirth from a fresh heifer and sprained herself pretty bad. So now Rose is getting halter training at ten years old. We walk her to the barn door for milking, but not on any cement. Yesterday (Sunday) her granddaughter had a BIG bull calf. The granddaughter, Rosalie, had a heifer last year. So the family goes on.
