More for a 1/2 dexter bull calf then full jersey?

I'm leaning towards breeding my jersey to a dexter this time and hoping for a heifer, of course.

If I get another bull calf, can you sell 1/2 dexter 1/2 jersey bull calves for more than you can a full jersey calf? I would assume so since it is at least 1/2meat cow.

Thanks in advance. I'm such a friggn' cow novice.

Gathering more info from your other posts; your cow is a registered jersey, right? If that is the case I would AI with sexed semen. Contact one of the major companies: Genex, Select Sires, Semex. They will get you in contact with a local AI guy. Even if it takes a couple of cycles to get her bred the calf will be much more valuable.

I don't think that you would get any more money for a X breed bull that a little Jersey bull. Dexter people won't want him because of the jersey in him and jersey bulls are cheap anyway....

The local AI guy said that his company doesn't recommend sexed semen on a cow that has already had a few calves. He said that sexed semen is less mobile and that a seasoned cow has too much room for them to swim.

I would LOVE to use sexed semen and guarantee a heifer calf, believe me. Ideally, I would like to breed her to sexed semen from a mini-jersey or dexter and now DJ has me thinking about lowline angus...

I agree if she is registered I would breed her to keep the offspring registerable...

now for something to eat...angus jersey cross is nice, and one of my best milkers is an angus jersey cross, but sadly her two sisters never had the bag she does, but they have good lines and have good calves...which are eatable as well...

but pure jersey will be worth more than a cross, unless you luck out and its a polled bull and you sell it at the auction house....jersey has yellow fat, tastes good but slaugher buyers avoid it as a rule if they can tell its a jersey or jersey cross. If its polled and looks like the angus it will bring higher slaughter price..but its a gamble.
