seperate bull from cows?

I have a 8yr old Dexter cow that will calf in June plus a 16 month old Dexter bull that currently share the same pasture. I rotate my 2 horses and the 2 cattle through 4 small pastures of about 1/2 to 1 acre each. Horses always seperate from cattle. Do I need to seperate the bull when the cow is close to calving? How about after calving? very inexperienced in this and looking for any advice I can get.

We never have any trouble with our bulls when our cows are calving; but they are in a big pasture. The only trouble would be if the cow was in a small area with the bull and the smell of her claving might excite the bull and he would try to ride her. Sorry if that is too graphic; but sometimes other cows are confused by the smell and think the cow is in heat.
