Cattle halters... again

Okay, I didnt order any ahead of time, and now dh is wondering if he will need one on each to lead them into the truck and such. Thinking in order to lead them around at a new place (ours) that we'd need to have them in halters and ropes...

so..

would a foal size halter fit a 5 mth old dexter calf... seen here

Cattle halters... again - Cattle

and the cow is full grown.. and seen here.. sorta LOL...

would a yearling halter fit, or would we need a cow size...

and arent they slightly adjustable?

I've got to run to the co-op in a bit and can buy them there if I know what size.

Contact Sandi Thomas for dexter halters sthomas@palmain.com
If you can't wait get a rope halter they will adjust to fit all sizes of cows. Wear leather gloves when using a rope halter, you can lose skin pretty quick.

Thanks ya'll I was hoping someone knew of sizes from a regular store. We ended up buying a Valhoma calf halter for Spring and are going to assume, for now, that the calf will follow mama wherever she goes. I may contact the Thomas' or the ebay site when I have time to wait for shipping.

Up until now, dh had said "we dont need one... we dont need to buy things for cows that arent here yet" then yesterday, when its too late to order them, he says "we should probably get a halter" (SIGH) silly man!

A calf halter will be too small for your adult cow. As Carol said, and I said in a previous thread, a rope halter will work just fine. It will adjust to fit any size cow. That is what we had on our dexter.

I use horse halters on my heifer, first a foal, then yearling. Now she's up to cob size. They work fine. Seems every cow halter, even calf sized was just waaaay tooooo big!

Rachel... I did take your input, and considered it...but when dh makes a decision, I offer advice and then let him decide. He picked the halter... if it doesnt fit we'll just return it
