mineral question.. and more chatter

I got a bag of loose minerals that says 12% hy mag I think... does that sound right? it has a picture of two kinds of cows and a horse on the front and the back says its good for dairy and beef cows and horses.

just checking.

I have sweet feed, minerals, range cubes, horse cookies (giggle), a round bale of grassy alfalfa hay, a brush , a hanging bucket feeder thing for water in the stall and a bigger water container in the pasture (55 gallon plastic barrel cut in half) and a small 'mini' feeder in the shelter for loose minerals too oh and straw for bedding...

i still need a ss pail but Im going to look again today when Im out later.... and I need a couple of halters, but waiting til they are here so I can measure and get one that fits.

And I moved my lawn chair over by the pasture fence so I can sit and watch them :funny: I will post pictures, but I wont be online much this weekend, so you'll have to wait til sunday or monday.

Dh is going to get the girls in the morning and should be home with them by about this time...

Can I say I thought we'd never get to this day?

Oh you won't be on the forum much after the weekend either! lol
We got our girls less than two weeks ago and we just can't stay away from them. I think we spend more time with the cows than we do with the dogs and they may even be giving our boys a run for their money.

If you ever find out what size halter fits which cow/calf please share - we figured we would wait til the girls got here but since the halters are all sold as small/med/large it really doesn't help much.

Do you have a hay manger? We built a really quick one and it does save alot of hay from being wasted - what we didn't do was build it big enough, we have to fill it 3 times a day! lol

There is a lady in Oregon, I think, that makes halters specifically for Dexters. I think her name is Sandy Thomas.

Here is there website: http://www.thomasdexters.com/

I'd been told though that you could use Foal halters and small cow halters for Dexters and do fine... and the difference is $20 from the Thomas' website, plus shipping... or, I saw some at our feed store yesterday for $10.99 and no shipping.

Im thinking, a foal size for the calf and a small cow for Spring.

The 12% magnesium indicates to me that this is a good supplement. That should prevent bloat.
