And Then There Were THREE

I am the proud owner of two new little hostein bull calves. They will be a week old on Saturday! I'm so glad they are doing well. DH's father used to try and raise dairy bulls and killed them all off. Very traumatic for me as a teenager.

Trinity, our heifer is amused. She will be a year old on Saturday.

I can't believe I have three cows. The bull calves will be raised on goat's milk until weaning, and then moooove to my friend's pasture to grow up. Trinity is staying.... (She is in heat as I write and extremely LOUD about it.) I can't wait until she is bred. Goats aren't nearly this, vocal, and I have nubians! (they are reputed to be very vocal, lol)

I didn't realize that calves were so......slobbery. I was drenched after feeding them the first time. Sucked my knee caps and nearly knocked me over. Wobbly and slobbery - that's those two to a 'T'. My heart just melts when I see them, though. Those big, thick, legs and knees! They have started sticking the tips of their tongues out when I walk out to feed them their bottles. Very cute.

/do not turn your back on that Trinity heifer. Many people have been knocked down or injured by heifers catching them off gaurd and trying to mount them.

Congratulations on the bull calves.

Thanks Up North - I know about the whole thing, trully. I was patting Trinity's nose awhile back - months ago, and she kinda did that 'half rear thing' but luckily was on the other side of the electric fence and got no where with it. She has been cycling since we got her at three months old - and did it once with me in the pen when she was small. Since then, at that young age, nobody goes in the pen with her when she is in heat.

Wow, maybe that is why my 4 month old heifer was acting so wierd the other day...knocking me with her head and running into me like she was retarded. I had to punch her in the head to get her off me and then I felt bad about it later...so she really is already cycling huh?
