Cows coming Saturday

Hopefully dh and friend will be going to get the girls on saturday morning.

I ordered a milk strainer today and filters to go with it. I got the 'mini strainer' but hope to get the bigger one some day

I need to get minerals, sweet feed for while milking, a SS pail still, and halters for both of them. The problem is, I really need the halters before he goes to get them, but I dont know what size to buy without having them here.

Autumn is 5mths old and Spring is 4 yrs old. I dont know how to figure out the size, but without a halter or rope or something, we wont be able to get them back to the pasture. We had a lot of rain on monday and cant drive the truck back there, we'll have to lead them there for this first trip in.... will just a rope work to do that?

Lots to do in the next two days to finish getting ready, and family coming on Saturday too, so I'll be busy cleaning inside and outside.

thanks,

You really need to make sure the pail is seamless. Otherwise milk can hide in the seam of the can and start to smell, and make your milk taste "off". If you get a rope style halter for your cow, you can adjust the size. As for the calf, I might try a pony halter on her.

Thanks Rachel

I have a guy bringing a big round bale of hay this afternoon.. delivered, for $45, sounded like a great price to me since we dont have to go haul it.

We built a 'hay bin' in the shop with welded wire and are going to break the bale down and put it up loose in the bin so that we can just scoop some out for them.
