Calf Scours

Hello,
I have a 2-3wk old red and white holstein bull calf . He is weak, able to stand if coaxed, and drinks if bottle is before him. I just want to know is it ok to give him 1qt water with 1tsp baking soda, 1/4tsp. salt,2tsp.sugar as an electrolite for the scours. The reason I am asking because I can't afford the meds. and the store bought items. He does take his botlle of replacer fine. Any info will help

I've seen something similiar to this used. Maybe it's on a former thread. The only other thing I'd do is google "homeade electrolyte for calves" and see what you come up with.
Just about anything to get fluids down them should be effective.

SFL...wish we'd had enough time...I could have sent you a few doses of V&E that'll make a few gallons of solution for any manner of critter. I have two packages and never use it all. I have spiffy little envelopes that I put individual doses in. Another thing you could use is plain pedialyte.
