why do cows MOOOOO?

seriously... from people who've been around them a lot... do they seem to be communicating with other cows? or trying to tell US what they need? or do they just make random noises?

I remember once time driving past some cows in a field and we pulled in to a gated area to turn around and they all came as fast as they could to the gate just bellowing the entire way like they were talking to us or each other. Im sure they thought we were coming to feed them, which we werent... but it was fun to see them all nearly running in our direction.

do you get to know your animals sounds? LOL

The waiting is just killing me. She is suppose to call or email the minute she knows anything about the job and the timeline.... meanwhile, Im pulling my hair out here!

Moooo

Cows moo for all sorts of reasons. You should hear the little buggers when they get weaned. That cry is "MMMAAMMAA". There is one cow at the dairy that just likes to jabber in the milking barn. The first calf heifers almost scream when they calve. Some moo more when they are in heat. Sometimes I think cow 605 (aka Cesspool because she is always filthy) is the town crier. If they aren't fed on time they moo. They don't usually moo if they are late being milked though. My boss and I often wonder if the cows would come to the barn on their own if we didn't chase them in. The recent spring weather has them acting pretty dumb- like running away from the barn instead of towards it.
