cow pregnancy

I have a 4 year old heifer that is due to calve in about 10 weeks. She started having a discharge about three days ago. It is very sticky and a clear brown color and it doesn't smell bad. To me it looks like a lot of the stuff because it strings all the way down almost to the ground. I was wondering if it is normal for this to happen so early and if not what might be causing it. This is my first baby to be bred and born on our property. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks milkinpigs. I have been stressing about it all day. I don't think I have ever spent so much time in front of a cow's butt as I have today.

We had our first cow calve this winter. I first noticed mucus on Nov 2nd and she calved Dec 29th. I was really worried that she was going to have it too early at first. She was due Dec 26th.

Our Dexter shows mucus at least 8 weeks before hand, as well. This seems to be a common thing.

I had to giggle because I find myself looking at cows' butts or calf manure more than I care to admit...
