Getting Close to Calving

Here are some pictures of our Bred heifers, that I took today.

This one is in the barn right now, the feet and nose were there when we last checked. Notice how her gut has dropped, and you can see the hollows in her flanks.

This one calved about a month ago.

Here are 2 that are close to calving, maybe within the next 2-3 days
You can see that their guts have dropped, and they are not quite as round.

Nice heiffers. Nice size and condition. What are they bred to? Hope you post some pics of the calves. I started calving this week, 6 so far, but lost one last night. Very severe cold spell with wind, chill factor was -20 f.(about -28 C.) We calve outdoors and I missed that one till too late and froze. They do have a windbreak and straw piles, but some dummy always wants to wonder off by herself where there isn't as much protection. At least I'm not calving any heiffers this year. Hopefully some warmer weather quickly.

Thank You, The 2 Herefords and the Black are bred Black Angus, we raise those ones. And the rest of them are bred Red Angus, they are all Shorthorn x and I bought them in December. I'll certainly be posting pics. Got a new camera, and I enjoy taking pics of the cows.

It is not terribly cold her, only about -10C. Not sure what that is in F but probably in the high teens or low twenties. But the wind was rather chill today. But we get those cold snaps here too, probably are more prepared for it than you guys are though, I don't imagine you see too much of that really cold stuff. I know all about calving in the cold, give them a nice warm, dry spot, and they go calve on a windy hill....... Too bad you lost that one. It happens, and it sucks. Hope it warms up for you soon.

Thats very helpful to see.. not that I have any cows yet, but you definitely can see that the roundness has dropped on the ones due very soon... and the other is VERY round all the way around.

POST pics of the babies too :P
