Best Fencing for Dexters?

We are planning to fence our 9 acres pasture. What would be the best fencing for dexters? Woven Wire? 5 strand barb? High tensile? thans for the help. -J

I would say that it is mostly up to you and your pocketbook. Those options would probably work. On our place we have used just electric fencing and they haven't gone anywhere. Two strands is what we have up.

They went through our old worn out barbed wire, it kept the horses in. So we put up three strand electric, 1', 2', and 3' high. Seems to be working so far.

I have woven wire (hog wire) with 2 strands of barb on top, of course, I also have to keep in the horses, big cattle , donkey,and goat. I use electric 2 strands at my summer pasture and it works great. When I bring them back home in the fall, I can string hot wire anywhere and they stay away from it, even if it's not hooked up. the trouble with hot wire is that if it goes out, you might not know it, until the cows are out.

Electric is my choice. There are so many options with it. Especially if you consider management intensive grazing or high stock density grazing. Electric is very versitile.

I am with PJ now. We used to use, Barbed wire, which kept the cows in no problem. The problem is we live on a main highway and the calves are so small sometimes that they can walk right under it and don't know it. Then when they are tall enough they stay in until about 2-3 months when they think it is cute to crawl under it, to Tick mom off, then crawl back to mom. You just know when that cow is bellering her head off the 4 letter words are getting tossed around...lol....

So we are in the process of replacing it with Woven wire with 1 strand of electric inside so they don't lean on it. They don't make a habit of that, but it cost so much that we want it to stay nice as long as possible...lol...
