Did you know about Leptin?

I think every grass farming, beef loving, cow raising, whole food type of person should read this. Click the link to my blog below.

Thanks for the link. I just printed that bit out for my dad. He is very stuck in the 'way we've done it for years', and no sort of explaining this stuff to him sinks in. Maybe reading it in simple terms will help. Years ago he fed commercial dairy feed to our family milk cows. We managed to talk him in to c.o.b. a while back, but as we learned about grains, we changed again and started feeding alfalfa pellets. The cows adjusted fine, but he didn't!

When you say alfalfa pellets, are you talking the same thing as rabbit pellets? This may sound silly, but I really don't know anything besides range cubes.

The pellets we get are about an inch by 3/8 inch, roughly. Just straight alfalfa, can be soaked before feeding. My cows prefer it dry, though. Found out about them through a friend who uses them for her goats. The rabbit pellets we used to get were quite a bit smaller, if I'm remembering right, and were maybe mixed with other stuff. The nice thing about the pellets is that they eat it all. When we used grass/alfalfa hay, they would leave the coarser alfalfa stems. This way we can feed grass hay, and they eat all their alfalfa! and it didn't sound silly, I had to ask and learn it from someone!
