Calf banded a month ago

I was wondering what the banding site should or could look like after a month? It has been just fine, he's fine, I looked at it this morning and the area closest to the body is red, a little puffy and seems sum what gooy. I touched it and he wasn't in any pain from what I could tell, he just continued to let my son scratch his neck. Should I be concerned?

his testicals are flat, gray, dry looking, but the band spot looks like its shrinking.

sounds normal- the blue coat will help it dry out.
It take 8-12 wks or longer to fall off.

Liz is dead on. After I band I dump iodine (gentle) all over the band. When the sack and band are ready to fall off I spray the blue stuff onto the area. Just like you mentioned Kathy the banded location looks nasty. Never had a problem with banded calves or goats. Just to be safe use the blue....

banding

We've banded young calves successfully without any problems. As yet we have not used bluecoat for this. Sounds like a good idea, though. This past year we've waited until fall shots and let the vet castrate them, with the theory of building muscle tone before castrating. Any thoughts on this?
