Silent heats?

Frosty, my 1yo dexter has only had one heat were the other cows jump on her, it was 3 months ago, and there is no access to a bull. She did get a bloody discharge 23 days later, so I marked it down as a heat. I have her in a corral with another cow and calf, looking for heat again, as it should be any time now. The problem we have is if I put her in the pasture, there is an angus bull across the fence. At what stage heat is she in with that discarge? I want her to be out in the pasture as much as possible, but I don't know when it is 'safe'.

The discharge is AFTER she is in heat. Usually a day or so later.

when you seen the blood take off two days- Now you have a good guess when her heats are. Find the 21 days and watch her well- watch late morning or mid- day I find that to be the times I see heats the most. When the others are busy eating hay the one in heat is bothering everyone or sniffing butts. I hardly see the clear mucus.
Good luck- Liz

So when I see blood, she's ok to put back in the field? Take off two days to get her actual heat? Gee, you guys are great, you probably do understand why I stress about heat cycles and the neighbor's bull even if no one else does!!!!

Yes, when you see blood you missed the heat by 2 days. Htis
has been my best indication of heats.

If you keep good track and you will do great- One funny story was my husband told me one jersey (CiCi) was in heat- I made the mistake and had the AI guy breed our other jersey (Chammy) - not the one my husband saw in heat- BUT lol the wrong jersey took. and is due in July..
