? blossom udder

I just seen the picture of Blossoms udder. The poor girl is she okay with a udder like that. Was it pre-calving full or does it always looke like that. How much milk does she have.

Teacupliz, I didn't think her udder looked too bad considering her age. Most cows loose elasticity over time and she is quite mature. Quite a few dairymen in my area use bras on their cows to keep the effects of gravity to a minimum.

Hi Liz,
Her udder is like that because at 17 years old, she has 15 years of calving and milking "under her belt", so to speak. It is huge because she just calved, but it is low even when she is dry these days. She had a beautiful, high udder until she was 13, then it started going south. Until then, the teats were well above her hocks, which is what I want to see. She does ok with it.....we are milking her and bottling the calf. As soon as I have milk does freshen, the calf will be put over onto goats milk and Blossom will be dried off for her last time to make it easier on her to get around. She will continue to mother the calf though, as I do not want to take her last baby away from her.
Used to, Blossom would give 8 gallon of milk a day. These days she only gives a gallon or two and I'm glad of it.

Blossom has always secretly been partial to Victoria Secret.......but she is shy and made me take it off her for the photos.

Considering how many calves Blossom has dealt with, she'd probably deserve the Victoria's Secret jewel encrusted bra.

teacupliz, it's no different for cattle than humans, gravity matters It may be a bit more pronounced in dairy cattle because their bags are so heavy and they produce so much milk but it is a reality of older cows.
