Blossom retires with style.

Blossom is due to be retired from breeding this year. She is 17 years old and is starting to not be so light on her feet. She was our best milker until we retired her from milking a few years ago, just allowing her to raise her calves then drying her off. Her udder held up until she was 13, then it went south. At her peak she was milking 8 gallons a day.
She has always been stingy with her heifer calves, only giving us three heifers in her years of calving. Many, many bull calves.
We didn't think she had bred this last servicing, but a few days ago, she started filling her poor old udder and yesterday she presented us with a beautiful little HEIFER!! She adores being a mother.
Blossom will now live her days out in peace and when she can no longer get around without pain, she will be humanely shot in her pasture.
Heres to a good old gal.

We are certainly keeping the heifer John , and I'm working on coming up with a name for her that includes Blossom......everyone has told me that just calling her Blossom will be to confusing while old Blossom is still here. Will probably plan on naming a granddaughter Blossom after Blossom is gone.

We have one other Blossom daughter from 4 years ago. She is getting ready to freshen for her second time. Also a Blossom great-grandaughter, from her first ever heifer.

Here they are preparing to calve within the next two months.

Thanks, Up North!
We are still tossing ideas around for names. I like both your suggestions. My sister wants to name her Jasmine Blossom.....I think thats too fancy.....but we'll see.

I think Peach Blossom is perfect. Peach for short at chore time. And when she kicks you will say "She's a real Peach alright"

The pups all watched her being born. Here they are while Blossom was in labour.

Beautiful girls-and I can honestly say I know how they feel right now (I'm due to "calve" within the next 2 mos as well!)

Another vote for Peach Blossom as a name for that special little heifer!

And if you will hold to even a 15 yr warranty-I'll buy 3 just name your price

Since Peach Blossum has already been taken, I'll throw in the obvious Cherry Blossum...

She sure is a pretty little thing. Congratulations!

Congratulations in advance! Do you know if it is a heifer or a bull??

Wish I could do warranties on critters......but with any living critter, my warranty lasts until they leave my care.LOL!!
