Does this animal have pink pigment around the outside of the eye?

Betty, I think perhaps we all need a little more information before we can be of any help and even then, I have my doubts.

If you are seriously concerned about it and it is causing irritation for the cow, you might be better off in this case asking your vet.

Cheers,
Ronnie

No way to know for sure without seeing it. I would have your vet check to be sure it isn't an early stage of cancer eye. Usually more prevalent in cows with pink or light pigmented skin around the eye.

As ksfarmer stated cattle with no pigmentation suffer from a problem referred to as cancer eye. Cancer eye is a serious problem and is not confined to cattle with no pigment at the eye. The health of the eye needs to be verified ASAP. If the problem is cancer eye the animal needs to be sold while it can still be used for slaughter. Your description led me to believe that is the problem but I was entering into that possibility without unduly worrying you. Most experience cattle people can ID if cancer eye is the problem without entailing more expense on an animal that you will most likely have to salvage. Wish I could be more encouraging.
