I'm changing my profession!

I called the vet today about getting the cow I'm trying to sell preg-checked so that I could confirm or deny her being bred. Thought I'd have the vet out and then I could try my hand at it, too. Well, if he comes out the farm he'd probably charge a $350 consultation fee in addition to the preg-check. If I take her in he'll only charge me $50 to preg check her. Wow. What a bargain!

Um...anyone want a possibly 73 days bred Jersey cow? lol

The local sale barn charges $5 to preg check.

Draw 2 cc of blood and send in your own pregnancy test for less than $3.00 plus postage.

Shop around. My vet charges $28 plus $2/head, including ultrasound down to 4 weeks bred.

Great! I think to become a veterinarian, you just have to take a 3 week correspondence course over the internet. Easy money.

I got mine out of a Cracker Jack box! But don't ask me to preg check a cow, I only got a box with small animal stuff in it!

Take an AI course. They teach you what a preg cow palpates like and you learn to AI too.

It takes just a couple of minutes.

I might have to do that! I've actually processed beside a preg-checking vet - if I'd known then I would have slid on over and popped on a sleeve!

Mary, thanks for that link ... someone had mentioned that Biotracking the other day but when I googled I couldn't come up with anything. I'll have to check that out.

I think that, because this vet does a lot of feedyard consultation and such, that he sorta prices out the small time people so he doesn't have to one or two himself to death.
