Tulip has had her 2nd calf
Our little Jersey, Tulip, has had her second calf and it's heifer!!
Previously all of our calves have been bulls, but now at long last a heifer, and Herself promptly dubbed the wee lass "Mary"; somehow a fitting title for the future queen of Wolf Cairn Moor.
Unfortunately for Tulip, we had to bring the wee thing in out of the cold (it's zero with wind gusting to 30 MPH), as our barn is little more than a wind break. We will, however, return Mary to her mother once she has thoroughly dried. I did take the liberty to relieve Tulip of a quart of colostrum, which of course Mary drank straight down. Hopefully on the morrow Mary will do her own milking.
