Cidr ??

Has anyone ever used the CIDR progesterone implant to synchronize heats? How did it work for you?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have used them in the past when I was traveling and did not have the time to watch for natural heat.

First year, we hit 80% bred, second year 65%.

I use them and won't turn back. I use them on cows, and they do come back into heat nicely (if you can't catch them). You also dont have a window to wait for, simply insert the CIDR, remove after 7 days, shot of lute same time. Usually 72 hours and they are in heat, breed GNRH at time of breeding. If they come back into heat, its usually pretty timely. They work really well.

Do you have any information as to how much of the hormone ends up in the milk or for how long a time?

The period it is in the cow isn't enough to effect it much. Generally when some put a cidr in for months to hold a pregnancy, that is a no no and I beleive is illegal.

We used it in September; 7 days in, a shot of lutalyse, then the AI tech came out. We will know if it worked on Tues when he comes out to do a preg check. He was supposed to be here last week, and I rescheduled.

CIDR, plus lutalyse, plus a darned good (and nice) AI tech and some good Dexter semen= a pregnancy tonight! CIDR worked for us! In addition, she was a 6-year old who'd never been bred before, so I doubt we could have done it without the leetle hormone regulatin'

I forgot to add that when he put in the CIDR, he also gave her a shot of something that sounded catholic, "sister ellen" I think it was called.

Yes, aka GnRH. I beleive its spelled cystorellin or something similar. I dont give a shot at the time of implanting the cidr. It is the ideal method, however I get a strong heat without doing so.
