heifer for sale

3/4 Dexter/1/4 Jersey 20 month old heifer, not bred. I have to confess to trying AI 5 times and now believe she needs to be exposed to a bull. I do not have the facility or way to do this, therefore, regrettably I will sell her rather than send to butcher. She has a wonderful personality, calm, and friendly. Believe me, I wish I didn't have to do this. Selling price is $900.00. See photo.
e-mail if interested.

If your going to attempt to sell her locally you may want to reduce the price drastically. I don't know much about dexter or dexter crosses but do know that if a heifer can't be bred she might just as well be a steer. Keep this in mind if you advertise in you local area....

I know what your saying, but Dexters are very difficult to AI. I have six other registered Dexters and crosses that took 4 - 7 tries each before they took. I was ready to give up and perhaps get a bull against my better judgement but finally things started to happen with the help of the AI tech's suggestions and him having to learn how to AI Dexters. I probably will have to send her if I can't get any of my money back after buying, caring and feeding her for over a year. Put her in the freezer and feed the family.
Thank you for responding.

Tiffin, how tall is she? Just wondering why Dexters are so hard to AI. I have a Mini Hereford/Lowline/Jersey heifer that was 41 inches when first bred AI and she took first time. AI guy had never done small cattle - he's a dairy farmer. Has since bred her and mother (45 inches tall) a couple times and both took first time.

Did your tech get throught the cervix?

Tiffin, she is a good looking heifer. Is that two strands of barb wire keeping her in? I've never seen a dexter and their actual size....

DJ: I measured Madeline today and she about 44" tall. What I heard was that Dexter cervix is slightly different from say herefords in that there is a triple twist. Now I'm only going by one person who related this to me but also could be their small size makes AIing more difficult. Also Dexters from what I hear ovulate later than again say herefords. I'm going to talk to our AI tech and see what we can come up with for a plan to try her one more time. One of our Dexters took when we AI'd her two times in a row, once in the evening and then the next morning; so two straws.

topside1: The fencing did not show up that well in this picture but it is barb wire at 3 feet, then electric at 2 feet and another barb at 1 foot. That is the periphery fencing and then we use temporary electric between 5 paddocks.
