Anyone else

have a "nasty" cow? One of my girls must diligently search for a fresh "pie" to lie down in, almost every milking time she comes into the barn with her udder completely caked with crap.

However it's not entirely without some humor. Lots of times when I start to wash her up she lifts her leg and cocks it back, so I can do first one side then the other. I dunno, maybe she remorseful and thinks it's easier for me to clean her up I guess.

It's really pretty funny, she looks like some oddly shaped giant dog ready to baptize a fire plug. Pretty startling the first time she did it, I thought she was loading up to kick my head off. But she just stood there with her leg hiked up, looked around at me, almost as if to say: what are you waiting for, get on with it.

I've tried several times to get a pic of it; of course she never does it when there is a camera present.

Jerseys....gotta love them.

Maybe I'm anthropomorphizing a bit, but she sure sounds like she does it on purpose so she gets that nice bath

Must be a 4 legged hedonist!

The smarter animals do tend to make sure we are well trained, don't they?? LOL

Seems like it is usually a larger uddered cow who lays in the muck too. I wonder if it has to do w/ keeping cooler? I am milking one like that too. She doesn't lift her leg, (which is hysterical),but she spreads them far apart and kind of leans into the hose's spray. I go through more papertowels w/her...but she is a great producer and sweet tempered.

Yes, I used to have an old Jersey cow that deliberately did this in the winter and I actually got to see her do it a couple of times. Do a nice, fresh steaming pat, position herself just right and drop down so the her udder was in it

Cheers,
Ronnie
