I want one!!!

My family and I went to the Sedgewick County Zoo today (Wichita, KS). What a great place. The person who runs the farm section of the zoo is a board member of the ALBC. They have quite an assortment of heritage breeds. The had a Milking Devon, Piney Woods and a Dexter. They also had a Brown Swiss and a Longhorn steer. Here is the Randall they had. I've wanted one ever since I've first seen one on the computer. Now that I have seen a real one, I really want one now!!

They had a Watusi at the zoo too. It was in the African Farm section. These are pretty nifty as well. I know there was recently a thread on this kind of cow. It would be pretty cool to have a Watusi as a lawn ornament!

OH OH they DO have a dexter? we have a zoo pass... maybe I'll drag my kids out in the cold tomorrow and go see a real live dexter! rofl

I love going to the petting zoo part of the zoo... they had a highland cow there at one time, I have a picture of it on my computer somewhere..LOL...

We were past your place today, I looked from the van to see if I could spot the pigs, but Im guessing you have them out behind the house, as I couldnt see them from the road. dh says Im a pig stalker..or a cow stalker.. depends on the day. ROFL

we went to the auction that was held at our new home. Got a rototiller, a 2 ton floor jack (for $1!!!) and lots of other odds and ends stuff... and the tiller is a nice big one, a horse, for $200... runs great!

anyway, we drove by on our way home from the auction...

Seriously I think I'll go to the zoo tomorrow if the weather holds out.

Watusi are awesome to see in person - pictures just don't do them justice. Somewhere I have a picture of one that looks a lot like the one you posted. Catskill Game Farm used to have a herd of them, but they closed not too long ago. Wonder what happened to them.

Hey, you know we passed a big white van on the way home. I asked DH if he thought it was the Darbys. Sounds like you guys made a good haul at the auction. I got the family pass at the zoo too. I'm looking forward to going back. They have all sorts of babies right now. We got to see a baby camel nursing on its mother. There's a baby rhino and giraffe too. Didn't even get to see the whole zoo yet. We ended up talking to the lady in the barn for quite a while. Kids weren't too happy about that.

ROFL...that sounds like something I'd do too. Spend the whole day in the barn.

They have an amazing 'rainforest' exhibit... we never see everything in one trip, there is just too much to see. I love the zoo pass because we can go for two hrs and when kids get tired, we go home, no big deal, no need to get our moneys worth out of the trip...

Very sweet baby highland! did ya'll come down butler county road to get home? it probably was us! LOL we passed your place around 4:30 or so Im thinking...maybe a bit earlier.
