I think it is time to sleep in the barn with a gun! I would also be so freaked out! Must be some weird cult. Why don't they just buy the animal and kill them! Stop hurting some one's herd!

There were rumors we were hit by acident- that the other farm was meant to be the place- which sound weird to me. But I guess they figured butching a cow was to much work-- lets just poisin them- My husband and son and on night allert- they do not sleep much- This is such a crazy thing to be going on

I am so sorry all of this is happening - it is horrible. I hope they get caught and convicted and sentenced to the fullest of the law.

Hugs,
Anne

Oh man! I'd be sleeping in the barn with my animals! Whoever it is doesn't seem to be too concerned about getting caught with all the buzz and reward, wow, I hope they get them soon!

From an online paper in your region:

WEDNESDAY: Five cattle believed poisoned (7:04 p.m.)

(Location deleted) — A (location deleted) Road farmer reported Tuesday that five of his beef cattle were discovered dead on Sunday. The owner believes that the cattle were poisoned.

Patrol interviewed the victim to determine if the cattle died of natural or environmental causes. He stated that he has not lost a cow due to illness in seven years. Of his 50 head of beef cows, only five of them were affected.

There has been no change in their feed, water or conditions. The five cows were of a friendlier nature and more receptive to human interaction. The cows appeared spooked or reacting to something on Saturday about midnight, the owner said.

A friend of the victim told him that two males were talking about the deceased cows at the (location deleted) store before the information was public.

That a good idea! But I would make sure it was high in or on a tree/thing. My dad and I went to hunting thing and they had some their, I said I wouldn't mind a few of these and then I looked at the price! $250.oo!!!! I said I would buy another goat with that!!!! But it is a good idea. Maybe all the farmers should do it. Then if they hit agian BANG......... They are caught! But maybe BANG......... with a gun would be better!

Rig up some of those Ramboo-like booby-traps...a little baling wire, duct tape and pitch forks.

I keep thinking about that line in "The Astronaut Farmer" when Billy Bob said to an enemy "You know, I have 390 acres here and it would really be hard to find a body"....heh heh...I like that.

I forgot this one but it is an old gaurd trick that never fails, geese. I am not joking. You just cant sneak up on the little burgers and they make a racket that would make a train sound light. all you need is two. they will be quite until anyone or thing comes around that is not of the norm out to about 200 yards plus. yet you can walk around them and they will keep to their low quacking.

If you are worried about a return visit I would get one of the motion alarms. Are hardware store has one so the come out of the back to help you. They have those driveway alarms too. Put one at the barn entrance and the reciever in the house to wake you up.

Liz,

A couple of years ago something similar happen here in Central IL. While my parents were away in Florida for the winter, my brother was caring for the livestock. He called me late one night as he waited for the county sheriff to arrive. He'd walked out to the back pasture to check on some cows that didn't come in to feed. He found a cow lying dead, her udder had been neatly cut (not torn) away and was completely gone. A young heifer stood nearby wide-eyed and stunned, within a few hours she laid down and died too. It was as though she'd died of fright. Although there was snow on the ground, no footprints could be found. The cow had no other injuries to her body. Law enforcement had no explanation other than that this "sort of thing" had occurred before. We never did find out what happened. It sure had me creeped out for a long time. I still get the chills when I think about it. These cows were not accustomed to human contact. They would have run from anyone or anything, which may be why they were so far back in the pasture. I sure feel for you in your current situation.
I think I'll go out and visit my cow. I sure could use a cow hug.

Karen
