Dehorning help

Hi everybody. I have a 10 mo Dexter heifer that we would like to dehorn. horns are about 3 1/2 inches long. our vet would like to cut them out, He says it's a bloody awful mess, but better now than later. Is this my only option? I've heard of dehorning with bands, anyone have experience with this?? Thanks!!

Bands work better when they are smaller. Having them cut out is the best to be sure they don't grow back. It is a mess but is better for this size.

Have them cut out with a barnes dehorner and have a electric dehorner hot to burn off the arteries and it really isn't that big of a mess. Just a little blood, wonce the novicane wears off the act normally again.
