Treatment before pregnancy.

It is time to breed my Jersey cow. I tried to breed her two years ago with AI. She didn't take it. I paid my money $100 and have got nothing.
So let me ask you some questions to be more succesful next time

1)Do I have to check my cow in vet clinic before breeding her or not?

2) What is the best way to breed a cow ( AI or natural method)?

3) Do I have to ask a breeder some papers from a veterinarian that cnfirm that his bull is healthy?

4) Do I have to breed my cow only with Jersey bull? It is hard to find Jersey bull here. What woudl you recommend?

Angus/Jersey makes a nice cross. Didn't your AI person come back for a second and third try? Back when I AI'd all my cattle, the guy would come back three times before I had to pay again. Perhaps you were calling the AI tech a little too soon. People have a tendency to do that. You wait until she is in standing heat, then wait another 12 hours. If you only have one cow, it's more difficult, as they'll start bellowing and bawling before they're actually "standing". When we had just one cow, I allowed 18 to 24 hours after she first started walking the fence and bawling.

We had great success with AI; I'd say at least 75% were bred the first time.

When did she last have a calf? An overweight cow can be very difficult to breed.

Two keys to breeding is:

Not overweight - Body score of 5-6

GOOD mineral (loose, not blocks) program.
