Dolly calved this morning!

Dolly had a perfect Jersey bull calf (sorry David). I guess we're all set for beef in 2009.

Pictures will be posted Monday

congratulations on the new addition. I am sure he will be a wonderful addition to your freezer. Are you planing on making him into a steer? If you are when do you think you'd do that? ( I am writing a paper, not really, just curious< >

We'll 'steer' him in the right direction in a few weeks.

Amazing G is waiting for pictures You just have one big maternity ward happening at your place. Will he still be on Dolly in a couple weeks, or will you be bottle feeding him ? ('cuz I know someone who would volunteer for that "chore" )

My camera died after these few pictures ....

Dolly calved this morning! - Cattle

He's less than 1/2 hour old

The vet had to come to the farm this morningn. Paul was out in the barn around 6:00. Dolly was down with glazed eyes ... milk fever! This is the first time Dolly has had this. Doc IV'd her with calcium and she was back on her feet within minutes.

I've never seen her udder so HUGE! Doc says it's because of her age.

Clover, tell Amazingn G we'll save a bottle for her!

He's full Jersey.

The pictures were take within 10-15 minutes of birthing. She hadn't passed the placenta yet.

Her udder was the size of a Holstein. In the 5 years we've had Dolly, I've never seen her udder so big. Even after the calf suckling off and on all day, we decided to relieve pressure on her udders and have 4.5 gallons of colostrum. We only milked her enough to relieve pressure - her udders were still huge after milking.
