Our Fall Fair, Steer Show!!! PICTURES

My and my sister decided to put to steers in the sale and Auction this year at our local fair. The top 10 placing steers are sold at Auction, this year there was only 9 steers so all sold.

I placed 5th place with my Herford/Limousin steer- he weighed in at 1410lbs.

My Sisters Steer placed last (surprising to me) he was a 1/4 limousin, 1/4 herford-he weighed in at 1030lbs.

Here are some Pictures:

The Prices this year at the sale were low, I did alright with 1410lbs at $1.90/lb. But My Sister only got $.90/lb for 1030. and we only get paid for 1200 pounds so the person who bought my steer gets 210lbs for nothing! Oh well.

Enjoy,
Melissa

Your steers look good. I can tell you both put some time into your projects.

I love the fair! It is exhilarating, being in the ring. Are you planning to do it again next year?

Well, I would like to do it again. Its a gamble from year to year, on pricing. This year are Steers will probably be around 11,000 pounds this time, so they will be a good weight. I think we might!!! I know once I get my cheque its going towards my final semester here at college, and I'm taking Agriculture none the less. My sister will be heading to school next year so I think it would be good if we did it again!

We did put alot of time in to these steers but we loved every part of it!! and the nice thing is that they came from our own herd, more often than not some of the guys bring steers that they bought from feed lots 1 month prior to the show. Its not fair to some, but its good to know ours are home bred!

I sure like the way you're able to show outside in the sunlight. My local fair went indoors once due to rain and have never went back outside. In my opinion, it's easier to see the animals "natural" build out in the open light. Sometimes artificial light combined with sheens and tonics tend to give an animal the un-natural look. Good job on your project. It's apparent you've worked hard.

Thanks, we actually don't even have a spot to show any animals inside, its pretty much rain or shine! The people that use lots of product on this animals might not be too impressed but thats what we have to do.

Thank you, we did work hard, but I really like working with them, its amazing how you can take a field raised steer bring it in and have it so you can lead it around, just takes time and practice!
